The Sweetest Thing...

I thought I would share the latest photoshoot that I did for my mini-magazine for for my MA course at the London College of Fashion. My idea comes from 'The Virgin Suicides' of innocent young girls that day-dream and have lazy days, unaware of the world that surrounds us because 'innocence' is the sweetest thing. The model I used looks beautiful and was absolutely perfect for the shoot.

Foot Candy

Chloe's new S/S'08 line is now hitting our stores and I have my eye on the sweet sugar coloured criss-cross patent sandals that come in various shades ranging from pastel grey, hot pink, turquoise, white and black. But what is even more interesting about these sexy sandals is that they have a unique cone heel that is two-tone, such as the white sandals having a white and turquoise heel.

They also have metal buckle fastening to give it a festish-esque edge, which makes them even more daring to wear. I am in love with all the colours, but for me, it is difficult to find a pair in a 42 (although they do them in this size).

'Tis The Season to Shimmer...!

Metallic is going to be a great trend for this Spring and Summer and will look great for your Christmas party, because you can party with this trend into the New Year. Designer Erin Fetherston has created the perfect party dresses in beautiful crisp silver metallic to create an ethereal look, so you too can look like an innocent Christmas angel.

These deliciously girly dresses come with either ruffled straps or, if you are feeling more daring, go for the sexy one shoulder dress. It is a great time to wear metallic pieces because it oozes glamour whilst being sophisticated, look for metallic pieces in silver or gold. If you choose to go for a dress make sure the hemline is above the knee, thin straps and not skin tight, you don’t want to look like Liz McDonald from The Rovers Return in Coronation Street. Or go for a slinky, low cut, loose vest top and wear with a good pair of skinny jeans and when the summer comes you can wear it with denim mini shorts.

Make sure your accessories are kept light, metallic is a statement itself and wear with neutral make up (you don’t want to look like a drag queen). Come Fly with Me...

Marc by Marc Jacobs S/S 08 collection is inviting you on a sexy flight to be your very own air hostess. With use of a 60s and 70s look comes a fresh new look that is crisp, mature and very, very sexy. This collection oozes attitude and independence that gives a 'bourgeoisie' touch to the post modern woman.

The show kick-starts with a stunning red and cream tight fitted dress with gold buttons and a pussy bow that gives that 60s shift dress a 1950s and but modern day attitude that is not 'dated'. Colours are heavily influenced by navy, chocolate, mustard, yellow, burnt orange, red, coral, cream and white as well as metallic and the use of silk and 'heavy' looking fabric that creates an 'old money' style.

However, the collection is sexy and has an 'air hostess' feel with the use of military style gold buttons and air hostess style hats, that brushes with edgy and odd patterns with the use of stripes, plaid and even polka dots. Pussy bows (and bows) are big for Jacobs alongside the use of the gold buttons, lace, clinched in waist (heavily 1940s inspired). The look is brought up to date, by once again, the use of 'neon' colour in the hair for a 'punk' inspiration.

There are many favourites of mine from the collection from the metallic polka dot dress to the opening classic and timless dress that opened his delightful show. This is a sure winner and a gorgeous look for S/S 08...so hope on board and fly MJ Airline today.

That magic moment...

Do you remember your first kiss? Or the time you felt really special and pretty? Betsey Johnson's S/S 08 collection creates the mood for those nostaglic memories. There is a heavy influence of the 1950s and 1960s within the collection, but one can not help thinking that the collection may also have a hint of the 1980s too due to the use of a 'biker-punk' look that can also be associated with the 50s, 60s and even 1970s too.

The collection is full of wonderful and beautiful prom dresses and sexy playsuits in gorgeous kindergarden colours of pastal pinks, yellows, blues, greens as well as the hint of metallic and the use of the all-American 'red, white and blue' that is symbollic of the good ol' US of A's flag.

The pieces are dramtic and not the usual style of dress that you could wear on a hot summer's day wondering around Covent Garden (although some of her collection has not been shown, so there is more of it yet for us to discover). The beautiful dresses, playsuits and 'two pieces' are decorated with bows, sparkly glitter, ruffles, thin belts and her signature use of pretty lace ankle socks.

Colours are used in various patterns of stripes, polka-dots and psychadelic print. My personal favourite is the micro-mini pink lace bandeau dress with the clinched in waist with the use of pink ribbon. Overall, the collection is nostaglic but also symbollic of the 1950s...but as the collection is heavily influenced by this generation could it be a way of telling us how far we have come but with today's world still heavily bombarded with greed, war, hate, racism and so forth...we are still behind and with the innocence of the 1950s maybe that was a prettier and more 'dream like' generation than now.

Give it some punk...

Anna Sui's S/S 08 is looking 'punky' and 'bright', setting of the futuristic look with a 70s and 80s twist we have a 'nu punk wave' on our hands. This is a fun collection consisting of bright and even pastel colours of purple, pink and yellow - but it is contrasted with a juxtaposition of dull colours such as grey and the usual 'black and white'. There is also a juxtaposition of patterns too with stripes being contrasted with animal print or big bold ethnic style patterns.

What is also unique about this collection is that seems to be also influenced by the 1960s and 1930s with a modern twist on monotone and flapper 'style' hats, not forgetting the 'Bugsy Malone' inspired jumpsuit creates an edgy touch. The collection is somewhat complex as the patterns work against each other, but also work together. Dresses are short and flirty, put offer a comic 'pop' feel to the look - like a cartoon world that does not work as heavily like the land of Japanese Harajuku fashion.

There is also another complicated twist of mixing the 1940s tea-dress with the 1980s 'big sleeve' look. However, the dress that I adore is the green and white stripe mini-dress with the wonderful material hanging from the waist with a gorgeous brooch. Whereas others might prefer the more 'sultry' and slightly 'gothic' metallic look within her collection that is both sexy and a great twist from what we will be seeing this F/W 07.

Overall the collection is totally eclectic due to the mix of generations that is clashed together using neon bright, pastals and dull colours and various patterns and stripes. The use of bright wigs gives the look a punky and futuristic look and the use of the 'high-waist' keeps the collection in the following form of the 1970s trend, the ankle sock finishes the look of nicely with an innocent twist.

Many individuals are disliking this song, but I am actually liking this. Maybe this is because it sounds like a hit that would be released by Gwen Stefani that has a Japanese/Harajuku-pop feel to it. Going Brunette...

Well the new season is now upon on us, with summer (if you can call it that) being nearly over it is time to investigate the new looks. I have been toying with the idea of becoming a brunette for a while because being a natural blonde this is a huge step forward. However, with having such a terrible summer I think we can safely start buying our winter wardrobe as well as getting that 'winter look'.

This 'winter look' includes becoming a brunette from my usual blonde by using the new L'Oreal creme colour labelled 'Vanilla Caramel'. But to be honest, I was not expecting it to be so dark and now I am hoping it washes out by my graduation next month. This is not because I dislike the colour ( because I think it suits me) but I do not think my mother will be happy with me being a brunette on the graduation photographs. Well...four washes so far, only twenty-four to go.

Pretty little plaits and a pretty little colour...

I have been adoring the gorgeous plaits that have been all over the Spring and Summer catwalks and even though I am still growing my hair, I have managed to do two little cute plaits across the middle of my head.

What is great about the 'plait' or indeed 'braid' trend is that you can create your own 'styles' and it can even look 'loosely done' or even 'messy', so it doesn't look too immaculate. Which suits me fine, although, my plaits have worked out wonderfully and took me about 10 minutes.

Moreover, as you know I have been loving the colour on the Marchesa catwalk and have decided to take the plunge and change my hair colour from the usual icey-blonde to the more 'apricot minky-pinky' tone...a bit of a mouthful, I know. But, it is how the hair colour technian described it.

You can see the difference in hair colour from above (the plaits) to how it is now...but I am loving my new hair colour as it is perfect for the summer. And what is wonderful about the colour is that it is unique and nothing too extreme but still catches one's eye...loves it!

Vanessa Barrantes does good dress...

I adore dresses! I think everyone realises this and when I came about Vanessa Barrantes collection in Selfridges I could not help myself and try on this little red number. It is not usually 'me', I normally go for something opposite that is short, sexy and cute - think Betsey Johnson.

But this dress is very chic, very class Paris and kind of SATC too - you could imagine Carrie Bradshaw on a night on the town wearing these ruffles? The dress was suprisingly made from Polyester although it did not feel like it. Open at the back, knee length, a gorgeous vinbrant red - it oozes sex appeal, but not in a 'slutty' way. I don't believe her dresses are to be expensive, however, this particular sell-out dress did not have a price tag...although I feel I should had asked. Hmm, maybe I will be returning soon to buy it.

Cut Lily some slack...

I know Lily has not got near enough coverage for her collection as Kate Moss, but I am suprised. Although I only like one of her dresses, they do have good material that is heavy and nice to touch - which is quite unsual for New Look itself.

I tried on the floral prom dress with the ruffles and thought it was really pretty, especially for a nice summer day with little patent peep toes and a glass of Pinot Grigio in one hand. However, I did not buy the dress because the size 10 was too big on the chest for small boobies and the size 8 was too small for me to fit into. Which is a shame, because I would had bought this dress and wore it with a belt. I think individuals need to cut some slack for this collection, in fact, it is probably better material used than Kate Moss's collection.

Well I sat my last exam on the 9th May 2007, I have finally finished my undergraduate degree in BA Hons' Sociology at Goldsmiths College, the University of London. Now I await my results whilst I enjoy my summer of freedom - earning money (lol) until September when I start the London Of College for my MA degree in Fashion Journalism.

'A change of colour...'

I am thinking of changing my hair colour, I want something unique but not horribly unique. I am a natural blonde, but I have high-lights to brighten up my locks. However, I am fed up of being blonde but I do not want to go too dark...so I have discovered these pretty colours from the Spring/Summer 2007 Marchesa collection:

Maryna Linchuk and Magdalena Frackowiak show off these colours wonderfully. I would love some feedback because even though I will take these into a hairdresser's they will probably mess it up and I will probably come with ginger hair or dark brunette - which I do not want. Although both the colours differentiate slightlyI have personally labelled the colours as a 'caramel blonde' or a 'toffee blonde', which is how I would probably describe it to the hairdresser along with these two photographs. Watch this space, there may be a hair colour change very soon...

'Kate the Great...?'

I guess not, to be honest her collection sums it up in one word - disappointing. I guess her clothes are very fetching for some, but not for myself. What is surprising about this collection is all the hype surrounding the collection...apparently on the 30th April Topshop will shut it doors and then reopen, giving individuals 'passes' where they are allowed a 20 minute spree...aren't they the 'privileged' ones?

Lets be honest - they have a 'ghost designer' that has re-designed some of her clothes from her wardrobe. I guess a lot of young ladies wish to dress like Kate (or be Kate) but I honestly do not find her wardrobe to be very inviting or fetching...or indeed something to get exicited about. In all honestly, this is hyper consumption at its best as Topshop opens their doors to the mindless masses laying down the 'rules' and handing out time limits and passes - you can hear the sheeps baa-ing now!

I know some individuals may think I am out of order...but the collection is a let down and you could buy such similar items in Topshop already. To be honest, I do like the white dress - but at £60 it is simply not worth it, especially when you will see a girl wearing it every five minutes.

It is really something when young girls admire an individual that is a past coke-head, has a junkie boyfriend and a child that she never seems to be with. Instead she hangs out of a window backwards smoking a cigarette...hmmm, what an inspiration!

It is amazing how individuals worldwide can be infactuated, or 'admire' an individual that is not known for anything than stood around 'looking pretty' - I have never even heard her speak, until I saw the video of her on the Topshop website.

Kate is just typically 'British' and dresses typically British, I find other models and celebrities more of an inspiration for their fashion sense than 'The Moss' - such as Mary Kate Olsen, for example. But what can I say? Kate's collection, no matter what, will be a sell out...

The London College of Fashion...here I come!

Remember when I started this blog and I was unsure about my future? Well I am about to finish my final year for my degree in BA Hons' Sociology and I have decided to become a fashion journalist. I applied to the London College of Fashion (University of The Arts London) for the MA Fashion Journalism course. For the application process I had to provide an essay, personal statement and a final topic outline that got me to the next stage which was an interview.

After waiting eleven days after the interview, I finally heard back from the London College of Fashion. The letter consisted of an 'Unconditional Offer' that I have, of course, accepted! As the offer is unconditional it is like a breath of fresh air. Normally MA courses only allow individuals onto the course under the condition that they get a 2:1 or higher. Of course I am aiming for a 2:1 - I always have been doing but the fact that it is unconditional is less pressure. So London College of Fashion here I come, I can't explain my excitement and happiness!

You don't have to be a flasher, to wear a trench.

The trench is big news for the spring and they come in all shapes and sizes - 3/4 sleeves, volume, fitted, swing...you name, it's all going on. I have snapped up this little beauty back in November for just £10 (!) - can you guess where from?

The beauty about the trench coat is that it has a 'classical' look and to be honest I see it in the same line as 'demin' because lets be honest, the trench coats never really go out of fashion. But they come back 'in' with a twist. The little trench coat that I am wearing came with the 'average' look and so I made my own adjustments.

I took the belt and made it into a pussy-bow and bought a thick black patent belt to wear round the waist - all it takes is a little bit of imagination. You do not even have to change the coat much, but it will give your own individualistic style to it and people will start wondering where you have bought it from. It just goes to show you do not even have to pay more than £10 to have such a 'darling' trench, such as the one above! Good luck with your search...

Well...hello Sailor!

I have always like all things nautical...and sailors don't look too bad, but, I am talking about the nautical/sailor dresses. This is not a summer trend but a trend of the past, but still, you do not always have to be like a sheep and conform to the flock of masses.

Mini dresses are a key trend this summer...but I am loving the sailor dress because I came across this little beauty on eBay. This wonderful vintage sailor dress just cost me £6(!) - a bargain that David Dickinson would be proud of.

Alongside mini dresses being 'in' so are 1960s dresses, such as the shift and the smock/trapeze dress. This little beauty is 1960s vintage, a mini, with a 'sailor' twist...now if Mischa can carry it off and get away with it...then so can I! Show your inner 'Sailor Moon' this summer, it is cute, flirty and lets face it - sexy, too!

Forget Chloe, think Chanel

As you have seen my cream smock dress with the lovely cream, navy and gold belt that I have teamed with a vintage Aquascutum navy blazer with gold buttons, I have discovered that the H&M dress looks a bit like this little number from Chanel. What can I say? I am just talented when it comes to customising a look with high street clothes...well, kind of.

'Lets get high...'

I personally think it is down to Chloe Sevigny, helping with the big come-back of the high waisted shorts, jeans and trousers. It seems like she is forever in them and carries them off so well. I personally think they look great with a tight vintage tee and some braces, with some patent shoes and some colourful shades.

I disbelieve that you need a figure of a 'model' to carry off this trend (i.e. thin), because I think it can also be great to show off 'slim' figures that have curves - I am talking about hips. Sorry to be blunt here but it is not a great idea if you have a big bum or have rolls of fat over the top, I also believe they will look silly on short girls because it will only make their body look smaller.

I am wearing them because I am a very 'straight up and down' kinda gal, therefore I want some definition to my waist. I have bought some high waisted demin shorts for summer but also to wear in the winter over opaque tights and also some high waisted skinny jeans (both from Topshop). The skinny jeans I am still expecting to see in person because I am waiting for them to arrive by post, but apparently they have sold for the 'standard sizes' (I got mine from the 'tall' section).

I am not expecting people to 'love' this trend, but it worked for cool peeople of the 1970s (such as the high waisted wide leg jeans). But if you are proud of your feminity, your curves and your body...then don't be a wallflower, get the confidence and show off that body.

A little bit preppy...

I am a bit late reporting on the finale of London Fashion Week, but it finished with Marc by Marc Jacobs 07/07 F/W collection. One word for this collection - 'preppy'. It oozes 'university chic' with its clever over-layering, use of wool, berets, pretty little bows, cute dresses and the use of plaid.

However...it is nothing new nor exciting and it can easily be obtained on the high street at the moment (especially in TopShop and H&M). It is apparent (once again) that 'bows' are a big trend for F/W. I do like bows but they are nothing new.

Some of the items, especially the red dress, reminds me of Cacharel's previous grey dress and the cream flapper dress can make even the most emaciated body look enormous. Moreover, the duffel coats remind me of cold Monday mornings when I had to get up for school. But, I am still loving the grey tights (which is still a great trend), the plaid jackets (super!), the high waisted trousers (great on us tall girls) and to be honest the smock dresses are adorable.

The collection is extremely wearable as the pieces consist of 'calm' colours (nothing too bright or dazzling) of black, white, charcoal, purple, brown, beige, burgandy, red, lilac, plum, navy and even metallic gold and silver. The patterns are not to get too excited about with the usual plaid, circles, flowers prints and lines. But the actual style and cut is 'cute' with gorgeous little ruffles, adorable bows, pretty smocks with sexy hemlines that look great on all individuals and especially on those that are not too confident with their figure.

Overall, Marc has created a style that can easily be achieved by using the high street with ideas that already exist this F/W and are carrying onto next year. Well, you had better keep hold of your existing winter wardrobe, hadn't you.

How to wear that smock dress...

There seems to be a lot of Chloe inspired dresses around the high street recently and after finding Christopher Kane's collection for Topshop somewhat of a let down, I have purchased this beautiful cream lace smock dress from H&M.

I have decided, however, not to wear it as a 'smock' but make it look like a mini (kind of) lace shift dress by dressing it with a blue, gold and cream belt, with black opaque tights, black shiny peep toes and a cute blue knit.

Voila!

I am also impressed with this little number from Zara, that also reminds me of Chloe as it has beautiful romantic puff sleeves with gorgeous detailing alongside being short with pockets - it is super sexy!

What is the fascination with the Olsen twins...?

I really like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, I am not sure why because I dislike them for their use of fur but their fashion sense is still amazing. They are also cute, small and dainty and are just absolutely wonderful as they are not afraid to experiment (even if they do get it wrong from time to time).

I remember them from 'Full House' when I was a child but other than that I am unsure what they are famous for, but now they have their new clothing line called 'The Row'. Mary Kate suffered from anorexia, but is looking much healthier these days - perfectly slim and slender for their petite frame.

Ashley has recently been sporting the Prada turban as seen on the S/S 07 catwalk...however, I think I will be giving this trend a miss. I am certainly looking forward to their collection though as they seem to be inspiring British girls more than Sienna Miller these days.

The fascination with these girls lie with the fact they are fashion conscious and they know good fashion and how to wear, alongside the fact they are very beautiful and unique with giving off the aura that they are both nice people - not the usual 'Hollywood bitch'.

Get marching...

Noir F/W O7/08 collection at a first glance did nothing for me and then I looked again and I saw 'the' pants. I mean, THE, pants...gorgeous cream, baggy type harem pantaloons - I believe they make a nice change from the typical 'skinny jean' and 'boyish pants'.

I believe these pantaloons type pants would look great with peep-toes or ankle boots with a gorgeous crisp white shirt, with romantic puff sleeves and a pussy bow. The collection also consists of long black pantaloon type trousers which are good for those that are 'less' adventurous.

The Noir collection is verging on 19th century military look - kind of 'Prussian' would be my guess meeting a hint of bondage due to the collars. I am not an admirer of the 'military/admiral' look, but the pantaloons are definetly doing it for me in this collection.

Rock 'N Roll

Fashion East F/W O7/O8 consist of three designers and this little outfit caught my eye, so thought I would give Danielle Scutt's creation a mention. It is so cute with hint of 1950s rock 'N roll from the mini bubblegum pink circle skirt that is mix with a kind of 1960s futuristic metallic and finished off with a vibe of 1980s due to the colour and 'dynasty/dallas' look of pretty pink meets metallic.

Not so unique...

Topshop Unique F/W O7/08 collection is a bit of a dissapointment, but then again I have not been enjoying Topshop so much recently as they have seem to have gone downhill somewhat and selling overpriced goods that do not look that great.

The Topshop Unique collection at LFW is a let down with buckles on belts that are big enough to eat your dinner off and cheap looking metallic material that looks, well, brassy and tacky. T'Unique seem to be experimenting with velvet in a lovely blue dress with romantic puff sleeves, but it is nothing spectacular (the pants are just hideous).

There seems to be a collection of jumpsuits which has grabbed my attention as stand out from the collection and therefore are eye grabbing. I do like the cream dress with the big pockets, but I am not sure if I would wear it as they never look as good as they do in the shop. Oh and did I mention the big buckled belts? Very ugly with buckles big enough to eat your dinner off.

To be honest the only thing that has grabbed my attention within this show is Olya, my favourite model which is a bit of a let down as an uprising model that strutting her stuff for various desired designers. The audience also seems to consist of many children, could it be that they were to embarassed to give out invites to adults...?

London Fashion Week has arrived...

And I am kicking if off with Paul Costelloe's F/W 07/08 collection, that consist of sparkly gold tights - that seems to be taking off as a trend (reminds me of the tights worn on the Anna Sui models at NYC Fashion Week).

Costelloe's collection comes across as being 'classic' in the way of a 1960s Paris chic, that is perfect for maybe the more 'mature' lady. The collection consist of tailored coats (including red), capes, shorts, suits, smock dresses and swing jackets.

The patterns consist of brocade, animal print and paisley in grey, cream, black, white, red, brown and even ruby. Nothing too exciting, but a nice little collection.

The patterns are big and wonderful consisting of stripes, circles, folk, paisley, animal print, flowers and various little items like chairs or shoes. The colours are beautiful as they consist of purple (a favourite colour of mine), blue, maroon, turquoise, orange, grey, black, white and metallic (including gold and silver).

There are the ruffles, sweater dresses, big balloon coats of the 80s - tunic dresses and vibrant patterns of the 60s and various folk and ethnic patterns that makes the collection even more unique.

The tights and shoes are a delight also! As the tights have either polka dots, sparkly metallic silver or are of knitted gold wool and the shoes consist of patent pinks and blues too!

I think this is a clever and wonderful collection to brighten up any young woman's winter wardrobe. I have posted all my favourite pieces on here - as I would definetly buy from Anna Sui's F/W collection - an absolute favourite of mine so far!

Simply cute.

Looking at Vera Wang's 07/07 F/W NY show, I am not really feeling her collection...but, I am finding her knitted bonnets really cute. They are definetly something that I would wear, as they cover the ears nicely (as well as the head) without having to feel like a dork when one wears ear muffs.

I think the dove grey bonnet would be for me, it is just a shame that I can't buy one for this winter. But hats seem to be making more of a comeback for F/W in 07/08 - which is good, as I suit hats.

Normally Vera Wang is noticed for her glamourous dresses on the red carpet and wedding dresses, although her collection is not really doing much for me as it is fairly simple and therefore somewhat boring. For arguement's sake, the make-up on the models looks bad and depressing and the collection looks like an inspiration from Prada - maybe the styling is just all wrong?

Betsey does best...

Betsey Johnson's F/W 07/08 show in NYC is my best collection so far! This collection is absolutely wonderful and what is great about it is that it seems to consist of many dresses and I adore dresses.

It seems that Betsey is too tapping into that 1930s vibe with a cut of the flapper dress and shapeless balloon coats with cute little bows. Her collection is wearable and would certainly fit into my everday life, with the usual use of black and white but also pretty pastal colours such as beige and cream. But there are also many splashes of colour ranging from metallic gold, gorgeous royal blue, red and various patterns including hearts, stripes and even polka dots.

I am loving the white tights and white gloves, the wonderful hats and the pretty use of bows. I have already picked out my favourites, but I have fallen in love with pastal beige dress with the brass buttons down one side with the wonderful pocks alongside that wonderful black flapper dress and coat with the girly bow (but to be honest I actually love more or less everything in this collection).

To sum up this collection I would debate that these clothes are certainly wearable, perfect to brighten up the everyday life that is cute, sexy, flirty and expresses the confidence of the modern day independent young woman.

Weird, yet wonderful...

Luella Bartley's fall/winter collection at NY Fashion really does stand out from the crowd! I am all for bright and bold colours in a winter collection, as other designers make do with the grey and black (*yawn*).

This collection is somewhat weird, but wonderful - my first reaction was, 'look at those boots!' They seem to be flat with a kind of 'folk' meet 'boho' look about them yet with a bright colourful look with tassles and patterns. The dresses are absolutely stunning with mustards, hot pinks, blues and whites that are short (but not ultra short) with the wonderful 'puff ball' effect.

I am loving the pastel pink bubble skirt with the white tuxedo effect blouse and the big buttoned coat with the cute little bow is just divine! This collection is definetly a thumbs up as it is colourful, wearable and contemporary.

Its a little bit vintage, a little chic', a little bit 1930s...

Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 07 fashion show at NY Fashion Week seems to be going down a storm with some individuals. His collection consist of bold and beautiful colours such as reds, blues and mustards, alongsides pastels such as beige and creams not forgetting your usual midnight black.

His collection has a vintage twist that looks like a classic Paris look that could be worn in the 1930s, that reminds me of Lanvin and YSL. Dresses consist of the a flapper style with a contemporary edge, whereas other dresses are off the shoulder, have short hem lines or are figure hugging.

His coats are classic and beautiful, as some show the figure but it seems the 'non fitted' (kind of) swing coat seems to be out for winter next year with tailored trousers and blazers. Those who like waist coats will find they are back, long gloves are also in and big hats seem to be a big trend with Marc!

I am especially loving the trousers that stop at the ankles and the gorgeous comtemporary style silk flapper dress with a 60s' twist. This is a beautiful and classic collection from Marc Jacobs, however...I feel this collection as vintage looking and completely wearable as it may be - I feel this would suit the 'older' lady rather than the young girl.

All I can say for now is that I can't wait for his other collection!

'I heart Betsey Johnson'

Its been a while, my pretties...so it's time to upgrade this blog! As you know I have been in New York City and what a great time I had (!) - but whilst walking around SoHo, I found a Betsey Johnson boutique.

I have never been in her boutique before, nor did I know she that also has a boutique in Covent Garden, London. I do adore Betsey Johnson because she her style of clothing is similar to the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection...if not a little bit more flirtatious with her styles.

Betsey's style for this summer is amazing as it has a Lolita feel to her Spring 07 collection, that is pretty, frilly, colourful but also daring, fliratious and very, very sexy - however, I do believe that on the wrong person it might be made to look cheap. In the words of Sheila from Shamless; "you don't want to look like you charge a fiver for a hand job."

Whilst visiting her boutique in NYC I bought a gorgeous dress - this is a black with pink stripes tunic dress that has wonderful flutter sleeves, v-neck, ties at the back and is short (excellent for the summer or a night out) - this can be worn as it is, over leggings or even skinny jeans.

Her collection consists of gorgeous dresses and sexy playsuits - that are bound to be a big trend for summer 07 - absolutely gorgeous!

Betsey Johnson is a designer that I will be keeping my eye on as she oozes typical 'girly' appeal to her collections that makes one feel extremely femine and great about their gender and sexuality - I know if I wear my Betsey dress in the summer it will be with lilac eyeshadow for that 'typical' Betsey touch!

Kate Bosworth copies Innocent Fairy

….well I wish! I am please to discover upon recent photographs of Kate Bosworth is that she is wearing the same dress that I own. But I am also surprised to see that an A-List celebrity would be wearing such a dress…‘where is it from?’, you ask. Marc Jacobs? No. Chloe? Nope. Prada? Noooooooooo!

This fabulous little 60s style baby doll lace mini shift dress is from…wait for it, H&M. Yep, that’s right! H&M, for just only £39.99 - a bargain and absolutely fabulous because you can wear it in the daytime and also dress it up for the evening. However, even though I wear the dress myself with black leggings I would not recommend the converse that she is wearing them with as it completely ruins the dress. Instead I wear mine with leggings and black shiny shoes, or even black tights and peep-toes.

And if you are really daring you can wear it as it is…but the dress is really short, so unless you are short yourself I wouldn’t recommend it!

'Christmas is upon us'

Aah yes, it is that festive season again and Christmas is pretty much around the corner...after all, we are now in December. But us ladies face the dilema of what to wear come Christmas and New Year once again and I have my eye on these little dresses, but which one to pick? 'No fur please, we are British'

So are you 'fur' or 'against'? I, personally, am against fur - always have been and always will be. Why is this the case, one might ask? Well it is obvious isn't it (?), I do not want to walk around in another animal's skin knowing the suffering and torture that the poor animal had experienced.

There is no need for fur, especially not in this time and age. Why, you ask? The climate (especially in the UK) is not exactly freezing, in fact, sciencetific evidence has discovered that the climate is actually getting warmer due to global warming. Yes, we still experience winter but we can still wrap up warm without having to end a life of some poor animal.

Animals should not have to be a fashion victim, they should not have to die for our selfish consumption of goods just because it looks 'good'. If you love fur, then why not purchase a faux fur coat (or if you are a lover of leather, then buy pleather)? It is as simple as that. It looks like the real thing without having to murder thousands of animals.

After all the question you should ask yourself is; 'would you wear your pet?'

I am loving Topshop's window display on the anti-fur campaign shown in Oxford Circus store, I just wish other shops, designers and so forth will follow the 'trend'. After seeing photographs and videos of animals being killed for fur will stay with my for the rest of my life. I can recall a video of a live racoon being smashed against the floor by its tail until it is dead, dogs that are alive in flat pack cages being thrown from a two storey bus and then skinned alive for their fur in Korea. Not forgetting live chinchillas having their neck snapped for the sake of human beings.

Individuals (such as 'J-Lo') wear fur because it shows wealth, status and maybe seperates the classes. Fur is, apparently expensive, but what right does someone have to take another animal's skin the first place? It is barbaric and disturbing. Lets face it, human beings are selfish - they take and take and take...but do they ever give? They ruin the earth, they consume more and more meat leading to more slaughterings of animals that have to suffer horrific conditions until they are executed, consumers even exploit children in the use of child erotica - when is it all going to stop?

The UK Law contradicts itself, as fur farms are illegal in the UK and so is animal abuse - yet one can wear a fur coat...isn't torturing and killing an animal for fur not animal abuse? I think so.

Don't wear death on your back for the sake of fashion, after all, does it make it ok for another individual to kill another for his or her skin?

'Doing the highland fling!'

'Ey lassies! I am very pleased with my purchase from H&M, this £30 tartan smock dress has sold out in all the H&M stores across the country. I have teamed it with black leggings and black patent peep-toe heels to give the tartan smock dress an edge. But this dress is not for everyone's taste, I do get strange looks but then again I get asked a lot by trendy individuals where I have bought my dress from. All I can say is...if you have the confidence, wear it! Especially if you can carry it off.

'Britney HAS brought sexy back...!'

I reckon Britney's latest appearance on the David Letterman's show was somewhat distasteful as she was only on the show for what seems like 60 seconds, just to show off her new hair and body. But what I can't deny is how hot she is looking! Her hair is amazing and her figure is striking, good on you Britters! Welcome back!

This is the best I have seen of Britney Spears, especially since she has married Kevin Federline (K-Fed) - all she needs now is divorce that fella and get herself a sexy new model...but lo and behold! Rumours are, that Britney is getting divorced...lets wait and see, eh?

But after individuals stating what 'trailer park' trash Britney had turned into, she has surprised us once again! As she is sporting a sexy 60s bob and wearing a very sexy dress in the photo above...oops! She has done again!

'Olya Ivanisevic is the new Jennifer Aniston...'

Remember back in the 90's when 'Friends' appeared on our screen and we purred over Rachel's (Jennifer Aniston) hair cut? Most of the girls rushed our to their nearest hair salon to get the 'Rachel' cut, but now times have changed and we are in the year 2006 - and our latest inspiration is the 'Olya' hair cut...and it sure is looking good.

So who doesn't know Olya Ivanisevic? The 5ft10" Serbian model is only eighteen and is already inspiring fashionistas with her adorable hair style. While some individuals may say her hair looks like a wig crossed with a shaggy dog (depending if it is made to look tassled and messed up - rather than sleek and smooth), I think the style is cool, sexy and unique.

Olya seems to has a full and heavy fringe, that is layered a little at the side - leaving the rest on the hair neck length (there are two photographs of her with the bob all one length but another with the hair going shorter at the back) - which one do you prefer?

Due to Olya's fabulous hair cut (alongside looking for a 'change' in hair style), I decided to take the plunge and get the er...chop! My hair is long no more, but neck-length and going a bit shorter at the back (like in the picture of Oyla). I have also had a full head of high-lights, as my hair is a natural blonde that has become dull and is a ash blonde...very, very boring indeed.

My hair still needs to grow, however, at the sides a bit more - due to a previous cut - but it will get there. I think though, by the time it needs cutting again I will not going be going shorter at the back but having it all one length (like in the other photo of Olya).

I did not follow the trend of Jennifer Aniston in the 90s, nor have I copied hair of other celebrities or models before - as I have always had a unique sense of mad hair styles ranging from funky mullets, a mohican with long hair and a blunt fringe (yes, really!), not forgetting having my hair short on one side and long on the other. But for once, I have seen a cut that stands out from the rest and it is from a model named Olya - a name, I am sure, that is going to be very, very well known.

'Chloe, you are the Queen of Cool!'

I have always adored Chloe Sevigny ever since the film 'Kids', not just because she is an amazing actress (especially in 'Boys Don't Cry') but because she is so cool and does not come across like she had tried to hard (such as Victoria Beckham does).

Chloe mixes designer pieces with vintage finds along with her sultry (kind of drugged up) look, this girl seems to be able to pull anything off. The thing about Chloe also, is that she wears trends before they have even started such as the 'Boyish' trend (which is one of the trends this autumn and winter) - alongside little shift dresses, hotpants and braces and not forgetting the cool 'Lolita' 50's look.

Chloe is quirky and sexy, she stands out from the crowd because she is not your 'average' Hollywood starlet - yes we know she is no Scarlett Johansson, but Chloe is beautiful in her own way because she is unique alongside mainly acting in art-house films that makes her stand out from the rest.

Chloe is my ultimate (if not my one and only) fashion icon - she is not afraid to wear something weird and wacky, or an outfit that is not bang on trend. You can have your Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, but really they are nothing unique - they just parade around (still!) in pixie boots, hotpants, skinny jeans, ballet flats and over-sized t-shirts that is just getting old and very boring. Chloe is unpredictable, one will never know how she will step out of the house and what she will be wearing and therefore she is definetly one of a kind.

So Chloe Sevigny, we salute you!

London Fashion Week: Part II

Giles

I must admit when I look at Giles as an individual, he gives me the creeps...there is something about him that just is not quite right - so he has totally suprised me with his collection this week in London. Giles has created some sexy, timeless and chic pieces from gowns, capes and even shift dress in beautiful patterns and colours such as beige, gold, black and white. To be honest, at the beginning of the show his best creations were not shown - so as the saying goes 'leaving the best till last' was certainly the case here and I am totally loving his mini cocoon dresses which are sexy and great for a glam night out on the tiles.

Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane on the other end has created some ecentric pieces of little mini dresses with lots of lace, cut-outs, frills in bright and vibrant colours such as pink, yellow, blue, purple, orange and so forth. His collection is reminding me of naughty French maid meets Madonna's Vogue video along with (what looks like) a Victoriana inspiration - would I wear it? To be honest, I could actually see me in a couple of pieces on a summer night to show off my tan and long legs.

Zandra Rhodes

Now Zandra Rhodes is next to compliment, yes this designer is one ecentric little minx but she (in my opinion) has created some very girly and flirty pieces. She has created 'cocoon - tulip - puff ball - balloon' style dresses and skirts, with wonderful little jackets in beautiful pastel colours such as baby blue and baby pink. Erin O'Conner finished off the show nicely wearing black leggings and a pastel blue shimmery smock top, with some (not very tasteful) hair extenstions

which made her look like Boy George.

'London Fashion Week'

This is a very strange and somewhat disturbing outfit that has been strutting up and down the catwalk this week in London, this outfit has been designed by Gareth Pugh a designer from Sunderland but a graduate from Central Saint Martins. I am unsure what Gareth hopes to get out of designing such a freaky Halloween costume, but I am sure it will not be money - because who is going to wear it? To be honest, I could imagine Victoria Beckham pouting in this outfit and one good thing will come out of it - we won't have to see her face!

I have been checking every day on Vogue.co.uk and Style.com to see the latest images from London Fashion Week, I do think some designs have been weak and are not grabbing my attention as I like girly, flirty, unique and out-fits that stand out in the spring and summer whilst still being able to keep cool and are not too figure-hugging.

Every one has been looking forward to Biba's creations (right) - but to be honest, I am dissapointed. This is the only outfit (right) that I am attracted to which is a gorgeous eyelet cream lace dress with billowy sleeves that gather at the wrist. However, the rest of the collection is not grabbing my attention and I am sure other individuals are just as dissapointed. I just believe that the Biba collection that has been created is nothing special.

On the other hand, Topshop Unique has created a lovely collection from soft pastels, bright colours, light chocolates, whites consisting of floaty dresses, playsuits, jumpsuits and gorgeous tulip and smock dresses that are ideal for the spring and summer.

The collection that has really interested me so far has to be the collection from Preen, that is carrying on the Cocoon trend into the summer with some unique designs and gorgeous pastel colours such as baby blues, whites, almonds and there is even some black coloured designs for the evening and bright yellow for those that dare.

'You've Really Got a Hold on Me'

So this seems to be the season of the Mod - mini shift dress, dark smokey eye make up and 60's bob hair cuts. But there is a twist that one can make possible within this trend by taking Prada stockings and the cocoon trend and bringing it all together. Does it work you ask? I reckon it does.

You do not have to follow just one trend but combine different trends together (the trends you like obviously) - but the trend must flatter you and when combining trends they must flatter each other. It be wouldn't right to team a 60's mini shift dress with boyish trousers and braces now would it?

So what do these trends do for us? Well first the 1960's trend, or indeed the 'mod' trend has brought us gorgeous mini shift dresses, smock dresses and baby dolls, 3/4 sleeve coats and swing jackets, alongside smokey eye make up (lots of heavy black mascara and eyeliner) and gorgeous new hair cuts. I am seriously loving the hair cuts and still unsure whether to cut my lovely natural blonde hair and have a 60's bob - the 60's bob is very unique they vary from a blunt fringe, a bowl cut to a 'pixie' bob. And if you do not want to go short, you can always add a heavy blunt fringe that rests on the eyelids. But we must not forget the stunning shift dresses that around at the moment, even the high street are selling fantastic dresses that can be worn in the day or evening and compliment a slim figure.

But let's move onto the Prada stockings that all fashionistas are chattering about and are all on the phone to find their nearest stockist. However, being the student that I am I have not invested in stockings from Prada but instead I have bought a pair (that look just as good) from http://www.sock-dreams.com/ and I am teaming them with my shift dresses. These stockings are obviously to be worn in the winter as the weather we are experiencing in London at the moment is rather unsual and feels like July/August rather than the begenning of Autum.

Last but least I am teaming my 60's shift dresses and grey stockings with a lovely cocoon jacket and to be honest I think this looks great, to my suprise, they do go well together and compliment each other. The cocoon trend is also fantastic for those that are pregnant or indeed, the larger lady. But it is best (in my opinion) to keep colours to a minimum and not have to many colours going on in your outfit, after all...no-one wants to look like a walking campaign for the United Colours of Bennetton.

Closer? No thanks!

As I was walking through my local supermarket today I scrambled upon a large selection of trashy magazines and my eyes became focused upon the Closer magazine. Closer magazine, this week, are offering two magazines for the price of one but I was more fixated on the latest photo shoot of Colleen. I witness her caked in heavy make-up, a cheap and tacky red tube top and a mass of out-of-control hair extensions - then I notice the title!

The title reads: 'COLLEEN I'M A SECRET'...at this point the plastic wrapping that the magazine was sold in was covering the title - 'she's a what!?' a voice screeched inside my head. Then I realised that is probably true, especially from this dreadful photo shoot, she must be a transvesite...maybe?

I ripped open the plastic covering only to reveal the following title: 'COLLEEN I'M A SECRET VAMP (But Wayne doesn't like it!)'- I bet he doesn't!

What does she mean she is a 'secret vamp'? Does she secretly sleep in a coffin? Drink blood? Nibble on Wayne's neck (well he is a very pale caveman), is she following the Gothic trend this season? Who knows and who cares? I didn't buy the magazine to find out, Colleen dressed up like a transvesite is one reason to stop you buying the magazine but Jordan is the ultimate reason to put you off buying it altogether!

Instead I tucked into my copy of Grazia magazine that revealed beautiful photographs of models, celebrities (no Jordan there!) and the latest fashion trend. I especially enjoyed the 'big fashion issue', adoring the new trends for this coming winter. I am loving the particular looks this season which are; the 1960s vibe, the grey trend, the cocoon trend and the boyish trend. I will discussing all these wonderful trends at a later stage and posting photographs of myself wearing these trends.
